Julia Oldham , based in New York, is a video artist, animator, and illustrator. I first met Lolo on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. That week, I spent time with him every day, and on Saturday, I took him home. He was a sick, tough little boy, and I was always attracted to illness and cruelty. I brought a soft, wet towel to clean his face and skin, and gave him some of the cheese that he wanted. I’ve said a lot of times the word ‘Lolo,’ but he didn’t comment at all. #19 Oh, I don’t know what they look like, so I just make them look like a generic sort of thing. In my sketches, I planned his original owner much more carefully, because I want to be able to go with her across a spectrum of emotions, although I don’t know what she looks like either.
