Ben Affleck has a blunt financial lesson for his 13-year-old son, Samuel.
The father-son duo made headlines earlier this month while at a sneaker convention, with Sam — who turned 13 in February — pining over a pair of $6,000 Air Dior kicks.
“That’s a lot of lawns you’ve got to mow there,” Affleck, 52, told his son in the video, “You just like them because they’re expensive.” (Sam, for his part, pushed back on his dad’s claim, saying that he “always said they looked good.”)
Now, in a recent interview with Access Hollywood, the Air star is doubling down on his comments — sending a strong message to his youngest teen. (In addition to Sam, Affleck and ex-wife Jennifer Garner are also parents of 19-year-old Violet and 16-year-old Fin.)
“We do not need thousand dollar shoes! And he’s like, ‘We have the money,'” the Oscar winner said of his conversation with Sam, adding: “I’m like, I have the money, you’re broke!”
Affleck has been spotted spending significant time with his son over the last month, sitting courtside as the Los Angeles Lakers took on the Golden State Warriors at the Crypto.com Arena in L.A. on February 6. Nearly one month later, he and Garner — who were married from 2005 to 2018 — were spotted at an L.A. paintball park with Sam, who celebrated his 13th birthday on February 27.

The Argo actor’s love life has made plenty of headlines in the past several years. After marrying Jennifer Lopez in 2022 — after reconnecting nearly 20 years after ending their first engagement in the early 2000s — the pop icon, 55, filed for divorce from Affleck two years later. The exes divorce was reportedly finalized in January, though they were officially declared legally single by a judge in late February.
