Laurie Metcalf played Mary Cooper, the loving and fiercely protective mother of Sheldon, on The Big Bang Theory. When the spinoff Young Sheldon was created, the producers needed someone to play a younger version of the same character. They didn’t have to look far.
They cast Zoe Perry. Metcalf’s real-life daughter.
Perry grew up watching her mother rehearse lines, bring characters to life, and disappear into roles.
