Miley and her mother, Tish Cyrus-Purcell, are working on a project that goes far more than a donation and that they had in mind for a long time. It’s called Rosa’s Place and it seeks to offer a stable home to women who have lived on the street or suffered domestic violence in Los Angeles. Discover all the details of your contribution in these lines.
homes to regain stability
Rosa’s Place is being built on Skid Row, in downtown Los Angeles, within an area especially hit by homelessness. When the works are finished, for next year or the beginning of 2028, it will have 97 permanent housing apartments with support services for women at risk of social exclusion and complex situations in their homes. These apartments will be delivered furnished, with own kitchen and bathroom. In addition, it will include patios, bright laundry areas and meeting areas to favor spaces of coexistence between future neighbors.
The mother-daughter initiative is part of the expansion of the Downtown Women’s Center, an organization that has been offering shelter, care and resources to women in vulnerable situations for decades. In fact, residents of Rosa’s Place will have access to professional accompaniment and care services managed by the organization itself. The goal is to make having a home the starting point to rebuild their lives, not the end of the road.
a great contribution to a larger project
Last Saturday, Miley and Tish were honored in a solidarity gala of the organization to recognize their commitment to the cause and announce the contribution that both have allocated: specifically, a million dollars to the HOME campaign, aimed at financing housing and support services, including Rosa’s Place. The gala raised a total of 2.2 million dollars.
In his appearance, Miley explained that one of the aspects that most move him from his collaboration has been to meet the women who receive help at the center and listen to their stories: “Their strength, resilience and hope remain with me long after I leave,” he acknowledged. She is happy to support in her work to create opportunities that allow these women to heal, rebuild their lives and feel at home again.
Her mother, Tish, has put the focus on the emotional importance of having a safe home. “I’ve always believed that home is our safe place and that they can have a powerful impact on how we feel,” said. She also stressed that being able to help design spaces where women rest, recover and can look to the future has special meaning for her.
Miley’s relationship with these types of initiatives comes from afar. In 2014, after winning the Video of the Year award at the MTV Video Music Awards for ‘Wrecking Ball’, he gave the lead of his speech to Jesse Helt, a young man who had lived on the street, to draw attention to the situation of homeless young people. That experience helped boost their support beyond the stage, first with the Happy Hippie Foundation and then through the Miley Cyrus Foundation. His collaboration with the Downtown Women’s Center has intensified since 2024 and is resulting in wonderful projects like Rosa’s Place.
