At first, it looks like an ordinary hospital room, with medical equipment lining the walls and a patient resting quietly in bed while visitors gather nearby.
Then you notice the drum kit, the guitar amplifiers, the stage lights, and a group of musicians setting up only a few feet away.
The band was The Scepter, an Ottawa heavy metal group that learned 27-year-old terminally ill fan Tim Berry could no longer make it to their concert. Instead of sending a message or a signed poster, they brought the entire show to Bruyère Health, turning his room into a private live venue.
They didn’t strip the performance down or play softly for the occasion. They gave him the same energy, volume, and music they would have played on stage, right there beside his hospital bed.
For a little while, the room stopped feeling like a hospital and felt more like the place he had hoped to be.
