Drew Barrymore had a childhood far from ordinary. Behind the fame was a life filled with struggles that began at an incredibly young age.

While still a child, she was exposed to Hollywood’s intense party culture. Her mother, Jaid Barrymore, who also managed her career at the time, often brought her to adult nightclubs such as Studio 54 and Limelight.

Drew later revealed that she started drinking alcohol at just 9 years old, began using marijuana regularly by 10, and developed an addiction to cocaine by the age of 12. At 13, she entered rehab to begin recovery.

A year later, after a suicide attempt, she underwent more treatment and spent several months living with musician David Crosby and his wife, who helped support her journey toward sobriety.

Before turning 15, Drew took the extraordinary step of legally emancipating herself from her parents and moving into her own apartment.

Despite growing up surrounded by chaos, addiction, and emotional neglect, Drew Barrymore endured it all and eventually rebuilt her life on her own terms.
